Emerson Truitt Roebuck, a 71-year-old man from Salisbury, NC, was tragically shot to death on October 19, 2019. He was discovered in his home on West Kerr Street by his roommate, who heard gunshots and found Roebuck in the living room. Despite being rushed to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, Roebuck succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Roebuck's death quickly led to the arrest of three suspects.
Ronald Dashawn Pruitt, 17, and Kenyatta Raphalle Belton Jr., 16, both of Salisbury, were charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. They were taken into custody at Belton's residence on Harrison Road. A third suspect, Tai Alexander Mosley, 21, also of Salisbury, was charged with the same crimes but initially evaded arrest. Mosley eventually surrendered to Concord police a few days later.
Salisbury Police Department spokesman Lt. Greg Beam stated that the crime was not random and that the suspects had entered Roebuck's residence with the intent to rob him. Interestingly, Roebuck had been the victim of a home invasion earlier in October involving three males, but that incident was determined to be unrelated to his murder.
The case drew significant attention in the community, as Roebuck was known for his active lifestyle and hobbies, including exercise, gardening, and embroidery. His stepdaughter, Shamill Connor, shared that he enjoyed taking two walks per day and had a passion for dancing.
The investigation and subsequent arrests highlighted the serious nature of the crime and the swift response of law enforcement in Salisbury. The suspects faced serious legal consequences, with charges of first-degree murder and robbery, and were held without bond in the Rowan County Detention Center.
