Delvin Teah, a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on July 12, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Delvin, a former high school basketball player at Vance High School, was shot in the head during a robbery at the Robinsdale Apartments on Margie Ann Drive. The gunshots caused Delvin to crash his car into a tree, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Delvin's death led to the arrest of several suspects.
On July 20, 2020, 19-year-old Donovan James surrendered himself to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and was charged with murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. On July 24, 2020, 20-year-old Malus Bey was also charged with Delvin's murder. A third suspect, 20-year-old Tyliek Stevenson, was arrested on May 24, 2021, and charged with Delvin's murder.
On August 11, 2022, Malus Bey pled guilty to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 13-17 years in prison. The trial for Donovan James is still pending, while charges against another suspect were dropped. Delvin's family, including his mother Aletha Riche and sister Danielle Teah, expressed their grief and loss during the court proceedings. The case remains an active and ongoing investigation, with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
