Born on August 16, 1976, in Pitt County to Braxton Martelle and Veronica Sadler Marshall, Brandon was a graduate of Mattamuskeet High School and North Carolina State University. He worked as an agronomist with Coastal Producers and was involved in his family's business at Martelle’s Feed House in Engelhard. He is survived by his wife, Adriane Swindell Marshall, and their three children: Carsyn, Watson, and Brennan.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. while Brandon was duck hunting with family members at a waterfowl impoundment in Hyde County. He was in a duck blind with his son when he was accidentally shot in the leg. His brother, who was in a nearby blind, immediately provided assistance until officers from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and first responders arrived. Despite their efforts, Brandon succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital.
Authorities concluded that the incident was an unforeseeable accident, emphasizing that everything possible was done to save Brandon's life. They noted that Brandon was an experienced hunter who shared his passion by guiding and mentoring others in outdoor recreation.
