On Valentine's Day morning, February 14, 2026, Matthew Wade, a 28-year-old Caucasian male, was found shot to death in a home in Vass, North Carolina. Wade, a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, was discovered alongside his girlfriend, 21-year-old Kateryna Tovmash, who was also deceased from gunshot wounds. The Moore County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Daphne Lane at approximately 7:45 a.m.
and found the couple deceased inside the home, in bed.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, 25-year-old Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh of Ohio, who was the ex-boyfriend of Kateryna Tovmash. Authorities believe Fosnaugh traveled from Ohio to North Carolina, broke into the home, and shot both Wade and Tovmash. He fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, prompting a multi-state search. Fosnaugh was considered armed and dangerous and was believed to be driving a white 2018 Ford Mustang.
Later that same day, through the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, Fosnaugh was located and apprehended in Ohio. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop in Linton Township and took him into custody without incident. Warrants were issued for Fosnaugh for two counts of murder and one count of breaking and entering. He was initially held in the Coshocton County Justice Center in Ohio before waiving extradition and being transported back to North Carolina to face the charges. He is currently being held in the Moore County Detention Center without bond pending his court appearances. The incident has been described by authorities as a tragic and senseless act of domestic violence.
