Dwayne Larry Sawyer, a 27-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on March 25, 2014, in Linden, North Carolina. The incident occurred late at night when someone opened fire through the front door of a home on Durant Nixon Road. Sawyer was inside the house at the time and was struck by the gunfire. The shooter, who is believed to have known the victims, fired multiple rounds through the front door, leaving about a dozen bullet holes visible in the door, a nearby window, and a
shutter between the two.
In addition to Sawyer's death, two other individuals were wounded in the shooting. Dominique Wiley, a 22-year-old African American male who had recently moved into the home, and Darius Elliot, a 33-year-old African American male, were both injured but survived the attack. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The investigation into Sawyer's death revealed that the shooter knew the victims, but authorities did not release any details about a possible motive. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office identified Roderick Nathaniel Davis, a 32-year-old African American male, as a person of interest in the case. Davis was last seen driving a gray Chrysler PT Cruiser or Chevrolet HHR and was wanted for questioning. He is described as being 6 feet tall, weighing about 165 pounds, with brown eyes and long black dreadlocks.
Despite efforts to locate Davis and gather more information, the case remains unsolved. The authorities have not made any arrests or filed any charges related to Sawyer's death. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
