Roderick Deon Scott, a 28-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on June 23, 2015, in Linden, North Carolina. The incident occurred during a home invasion at his residence on Kipper Court near U.S. 401. According to reports, around 3 a.m., three men wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks broke into Scott's home with the intent to rob him. Scott, who was identified as a drug dealer, was restrained along with his girlfriend. The assailants took several thousand dollars from the home. While Scott was lying in bed, one of the intruders, Raymond Lane Bradley Jr., shot him in the back of the head, resulting in his death.
Raymond Lane Bradley Jr., a resident of Fayetteville, was arrested approximately a month after the incident. He admitted to the shooting but claimed that he accidentally pulled the trigger. Bradley was initially charged with first-degree murder but later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. In addition to the murder charge, he also pleaded guilty to burglary, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of robbery, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. As a result, Bradley was sentenced to serve a minimum of 24 years and four months in prison, with a maximum sentence of 31 years and four months.
The other two men involved in the home invasion were not arrested, and their identities remain unknown. The case highlights the dangers associated with illegal activities and the tragic consequences that can arise from them. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation, and Assistant District Attorney Robby Hicks provided details about the case during court proceedings.
