Dennis Louis McClam Jr., a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on February 10, 2021, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex on East 12th Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found McClam lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that McClam and his attacker met in the parking lot
area, and the shooting was considered an isolated incident. The police did not release any suspect information immediately following the incident. However, during the course of the investigation, 28-year-old Bobby Devontea Mankins II was identified as the suspect. Mankins, also an African American male, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Mankins was taken into custody on February 15, 2021, and held without bond. The investigation into McClam's death is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
