Isaiah Jeremiah Doctor-Muhammad, a 22-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on March 15, 2021, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Kings Ridge Drive, where a triple shooting took place at an apartment complex. Isaiah was pronounced dead at the scene, while another victim, 27-year-old Lee’Vantay Rankin, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
A third man was also shot and taken to the hospital, but he survived.
The investigation into the murders led to the arrest of Martecius Taylor, a 31-year-old African American male. Taylor was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Several months after the incident, Taylor was arrested and later pled guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was sentenced to 207-261 months in prison.
Further investigation revealed additional suspects involved in the murders. Anthony Mitchell, a 28-year-old African American male, and a male juvenile were also charged in connection with the case. Mitchell faced charges of two counts of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and felony conspiracy. The juvenile suspect was served a secure custody order for two counts of first-degree murder.
The case remains active and ongoing, with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths of Isaiah Jeremiah Doctor-Muhammad and Lee’Vantay Rankin.
