Martin Nazir Solano-Tashpulatova, a 15-year-old boy from Charlotte, North Carolina, tragically passed away on February 20, 2022. On April 6, 2022, CMPD arrested a 15-year-old suspect and charged him with Martin's murder. Due to the suspect's age, his identity has not been released. Martin's mother, Kamilla Tashpulatova, expressed her grief and frustration, stating that her son had so much potential and a bright future ahead of him. She also mentioned that Martin was a smart and multilingual individual who had never been in trouble.
In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Martin had been involved in a fight at school, which his mother believes may be connected to his death. Kamilla found a video of the incident, showing Martin being attacked by other boys. Following the fight, the school advised Kamilla to transfer Martin to another school for his safety, which she did. Despite these efforts, the tragic event still occurred, leaving the family and community in mourning.
A makeshift memorial was set up at the apartment complex where Martin was found, with balloons and other tributes placed in his memory. Neighbors were deeply affected by the incident, with some feeling too shaken to stay in their homes. The investigation into Martin's death is ongoing, and his mother continues to seek answers and justice for her son.
