Patrolman Charles Doyle of the New Orleans Police Department tragically died on October 25, 1902, from complications of a gunshot wound he sustained three months earlier. Doyle was attempting to arrest a man causing a disturbance near the intersection of Melpomene and St. Charles Streets when the suspect gained control of Doyle's service revolver and shot him. Initially, it seemed Doyle had recovered and returned to work, but he later developed pneumonia, which led to his death.
