Jonathan L. Thomas, a 25-year-old Black/African American male, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting on the evening of January 9, 2024, in the Gert Town neighborhood of New Orleans. Officers from the New Orleans Police Department were dispatched to the vicinity of Oleander and Short Streets after receiving a report of a person down. Upon their arrival, they discovered Thomas with at least one gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed the identity of the victim as Jonathan L. Thomas. The New Orleans Police Department has since launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with this case. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Jonathan was a devoted father of two young children. His family and friends gathered to honor his memory at a visitation held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, followed by his burial at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery.
