Joseph D. James, a 57-year-old male police officer with the Alexandria Police Department in Louisiana, tragically lost his life on December 4, 1908. Officer James was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a murder suspect. During the arrest, the suspect managed to grab his weapon and open fire, fatally wounding Officer James. He had served with the agency for 12 years and was survived by his wife and nine children.
