Joseph D. James, a 57-year-old male police officer with the Alexandria Police Department in Louisiana, tragically lost his life on December 4, 1908. Officer James was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a murder suspect. During the arrest, the suspect managed to grab his weapon and open fire, fatally wounding Officer James.
