Alton Wilson, a 66-year-old African American man from Franklinton, Louisiana, tragically lost his life on June 27, 1977. His death was part of a series of violent incidents carried out by Paul Ruiz and Earl Van Denton, who had escaped from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester on June 23, 1977. Ruiz and Denton were involved in a three-state killing spree, during which they murdered several individuals, including Alton Wilson and Ray Jones, both fishermen from Franklinton.
