Sergeant Merlin E. Brune Jr., aged 37, was a dedicated officer with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. On July 12, 1977, he was shot and killed while investigating a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of Oak Avenue in Bridge City.
