Deputy Sheriff James Lee Clarius, aged 34, was tragically killed on October 5, 1996, in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. He was involved in a struggle with an armed robbery suspect at West Esplanade Avenue and Page Drive in Metairie. During the altercation, the suspect managed to gain control of Deputy Clarius's service weapon and shot him four times. Despite being found by a resident shortly after the incident and rushed to East Jefferson Hospital, Deputy Clarius succumbed to his injuries.
