Ronald Leon Duplechain, a 27-year-old male, was a Patrolman with the New Orleans Police Department. On November 17, 1979, while off duty, he intervened in a disturbance at a payphone. A fight erupted, and the suspect pulled out a pistol, threatening to shoot several patrons. Patrolman Duplechain identified himself as a police officer and attempted to calm the gunman.
