In the city of New Orleans on November 17, 1979, Ronald Leon Duplechain, a 27-year-old male New Orleans Police Department patrolman, found himself in a fatal confrontation while off-duty. Duplechain, a United States military veteran who had served on the police force for four years, was at a payphone when a disturbance broke out nearby.
