In the winter of 2005, the community of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, mourned the loss of one of its own, James Cordell Booker. A 31-year-old African American man, Booker was a dedicated public servant, wearing the badge of a New Roads police officer and having previously served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran. His life was cut short on Friday, February 11, 2005, leaving behind a legacy of service and a grieving family.
