On the evening of June 20, 2008, Nathaniel Menwell Mills, a 30-year-old African American male, was fatally shot multiple times in Slidell, Louisiana. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m., shortly after he had closed his business, the 'Unfadeable Barber and Beauty' shop located on Carroll Road. Despite pleas from his mother, Genevia Craft, and his fiancée, Daphne Williams, to not work late for his safety, he continued to do so.
The investigation into the homicide of the
kind-spirited and talented barber left a profound impact on his family and the local community. For over two years, the case remained open with no arrests made, prompting Crimestoppers GNO to offer a reward of up to $2,500 for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. The community actively cooperated with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office to help solve the case.
In October 2010, a significant development occurred in the case when law enforcement arrested a suspect. Bonnie Harvey was taken into custody and subsequently faced first-degree murder charges in connection with Nathaniel Mills' death, bringing a sense of closure to the victim's family, though the pain of their loss remained.
