A quiet Shreveport, Louisiana community was shattered in early May of 2009 by a heart-wrenching family tragedy. On Tuesday, May 5th, three-year-old Brice Romen Hardy was found dead alongside his mother, 33-year-old Grace Jolyne Hardy. The young boy, born on February 10, 2006, was described as a curious, happy, and energetic child who brought immense joy to his family.
The grim discovery was made at their Shreveport home, where the bodies of young Brice, his mother, and his father, Billy
Hardy, were located. Authorities investigating the scene determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. It is believed that Billy Hardy shot and killed his wife, Grace, and their young son, Brice, before turning the gun on himself.
Grace, a respiratory therapist at Willis Knighton Medical Center, was a graduate of Huntington High School and had attended both Northwestern State University and Southern University. She was an active member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Her son Brice was a bright child for his age, already able to read short sentences and count to twenty in French. The sudden and violent end to their lives left friends, family, and the community to grapple with the devastating loss of a mother and her young child.
