In April and May of 2021, three suspects were arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Herbert Glass and Lynette Williams. The arrested individuals were Dernell Nelson, Lee Williams, and Zetonio Lightfoot. Investigators also linked them to the earlier murders of Charles Davis and Hermania Ellsworth, which had occurred just three weeks before and in front of the Glass and Williams home. Forensic evidence, specifically DNA profiles found on the duct tape used to bind Herbert Glass, was consistent with the three defendants, finally offering a path toward justice for a crime that had long cast a shadow over the city.
