In the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans, a tragic story unfolded on the evening of January 28, 2017, ending the lives of two brothers. August Riley, a 19-year-old Black male, and his older brother, 24-year-old Torey Riley, were together on Port Street when they were fatally shot. The event was quickly classified as a double homicide, prompting an investigation by the New Orleans Police Department.

The subsequent investigation into the murders of August and Torey Riley pointed towards a larger, more complex web of gang-related violence.
