In the early morning hours of September 25, 2017, the life of 21-year-old Raheem Alexander was tragically cut short on Marais Street in New Orleans. Responding to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at approximately 3 a.m., Fifth District officers discovered Alexander lying in the road, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The New Orleans Police
Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Through the course of their investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the case. Less than a month after the incident, on October 3, 2017, the NOPD announced that they had obtained an arrest warrant for Chris Hughes, who was 18 years old at the time, in connection with Alexander's death. The warrant was for a charge of second-degree murder. Authorities then sought the public's assistance in locating Hughes.
