In the warm evening air of New Orleans on September 11, 2010, Dale 'Cocky' Alexander was riding his motorcycle down Marais Street. The 34-year-old man, an African American resident of the city, was near the intersection with Louisa Street when the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Struck by several bullets, he was fatally wounded. His life came to an abrupt and violent end in a city known for both its vibrant life and its sudden tragedies.
