In the heart of New Orleans, a life was tragically cut short on a Tuesday morning. Shane Casmier, a 33-year-old Black/African American man, was in the 7th Ward on February 20, 2024, when his life came to a violent end. The morning was shattered by the sound of gunfire in the 1900 block of N. Dorgenois Street.
At approximately 10:24 a.m., while Casmier was standing on the block, a vehicle approached. From within the car, a suspect or suspects opened fire, striking Casmier multiple times.
First responders arrived to find him unresponsive on the sidewalk. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, his life stolen in a brazen act of violence. The Orleans Parish coroner later officially identified him.
The New Orleans Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the deadly shooting. As of now, the case remains an open and active investigation. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the murder of Shane Casmier. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue to seek justice for a life taken too soon.
