On the evening of Friday, September 7, 2012, a native of New Orleans, Cedric Maurice Brown, became a victim of fatal gun violence at the age of 22. An African-American male, Brown was a father to one child and had spent his entire life in the city, where he attended O. Perry Walker High School. Known to his loved ones as 'Paw,' he was cherished by a large circle of family and friends.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., the sound of gunfire echoed through the 6700 block of Maumus Avenue in the
Lower Algiers neighborhood. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered Brown lying near a bicycle at the intersection of Maumus and Mansfield Avenues. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the location.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators began searching for potential suspects and a motive behind the killing. However, the case has remained unsolved for years. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Cedric Maurice Brown, and law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation into his death is still considered an open and ongoing case. Brown was laid to rest on September 18, 2012, at Restlawn Park Cemetery in Avondale, Louisiana.
