In the late hours of a Thursday in New Orleans, the life of 31-year-old Don Miner, a Black/African American man, was tragically cut short. On August 18, 2016, officers from the Seventh District responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the 4800 block of Longfellow Street. Inside a residence, they found Miner suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Don Miner's death continued for several months. On April 1, 2017, the New Orleans Police Department announced the arrest of Malik Clark, born on December 2, 1998, in connection with the fatal shooting. Detectives from the Special Operations Division's Vows Unit located and apprehended Clark in the 2200 block of St. Ann Street without incident. He was subsequently booked into Central Lockup on a charge of second-degree murder.
In their press release, the NOPD referred to Malik Clark as the "second suspect" in the homicide, however, information regarding a first suspect has not been made publicly available. Details about the motive for the shooting, the specifics of the investigation that led to Clark's arrest, and the outcome of any legal proceedings, including a trial or conviction, are not readily available in online sources. An Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office jail roster from June 2025 shows a Malik J. Clark with the same date of birth who was arrested on November 3, 2020, but the charges for this arrest are not specified.
