In the spring of 2014, the life of 35-year-old Ellery Boyd, a male of African American ethnicity, came to a violent and tragic end in New Orleans, Louisiana. On May 11th, his connection to a dangerous world of organized crime would ultimately lead to his demise. Boyd was entangled with a notorious street gang known as the 'Mid-City Killers,' a group that specialized in violent home invasions and burglaries targeting drug dealers throughout the metro area.
His involvement in this criminal enterprise placed him in a precarious position, one that would prove fatal.
The leader of this ruthless gang, a man named Gregory Denson, who also went by the moniker 'Pep,' orchestrated the illicit activities. As a member of Denson's crew, Boyd was privy to the inner workings of their operations. However, this knowledge became a death sentence when Denson perceived him as a potential witness who could unravel their criminal conspiracy. To silence him and prevent any cooperation with law enforcement, Denson made the decision to have Boyd killed. After the murder, his body was disposed of in the Industrial Canal in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The investigation into Boyd's death was a collaborative effort involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department. Their work uncovered the larger criminal enterprise and ultimately led to the downfall of the 'Mid-City Killers.' In a significant development in December 2017, Gregory Denson pleaded guilty to a multitude of federal charges, which included the murder of Ellery Boyd. Denson admitted to his role as the leader of the robbery gang and to murdering Boyd to stop him from becoming a federal witness. In March 2018, Denson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his crimes, bringing a measure of justice for the silencing of Ellery Boyd.
