In the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, a native of Maringouin, Louisiana, Derrick Christmas, a 28-year-old man, found his life cut short on a Sunday in late September. On September 21, 2014, Christmas was fatally wounded by gunfire in an incident that unfolded outside of a Church's Chicken fast-food restaurant.

The shooting prompted an investigation by the New Orleans Police Department. In the course of their inquiries, authorities made an arrest in connection with the homicide. ...
