In the early morning hours of October 29, 2018, Theodore Jones, a 34-year-old man known professionally as the rapper Young Greatness, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Waffle House on Elysian Fields Avenue in his native New Orleans. Jones, who was in town to attend a funeral, was shot once in the back and died at the scene. The incident was the culmination of a robbery plot orchestrated by a man who was considered a friend of Jones.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrests of
three individuals in connection with the murder. Donald Reaux, an acquaintance of Jones, was identified as the primary orchestrator of the attack. Prosecutors alleged that Reaux had planned to rob Jones of marijuana and had enlisted the help of two younger accomplices, Donny Maxwell and Lovance Wix, who was a juvenile at the time. Reaux provided firearms to Maxwell and Wix and instructed them to carry out the robbery.
In March 2019, Reaux, Maxwell, and Wix were indicted for Jones's murder. In December of that year, Donny Maxwell pleaded guilty to armed robbery charges and received a 19-year prison sentence. Lovance Wix also pleaded guilty to several armed robbery charges and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
After a trial, a jury unanimously convicted Donald Reaux of second-degree murder in January 2023. Evidence presented during the trial included security footage that showed Reaux at the scene. He subsequently received a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
