In the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, a bright morning in January 2023 was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 18-year-old Rickey Smith, a Black male. On January 18th, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Smith was a passenger in a car, accompanied by his mother and two siblings, when the vehicle was sprayed with bullets. The sudden and brutal attack left the car riddled with bullet holes and a family irrevocably broken.
