In the fall of 2014, a tragic event unfolded in New Orleans that cut short the life of Richard 'Chris' Yeager, a 35-year-old man beloved by many as a son, brother, and friend. On the evening of September 22, 2014, Yeager, a Domino's Pizza delivery driver, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2800 block of Saint Louis Street. He had just completed a delivery in the area when the fatal encounter occurred, and he died at the scene. Investigators later revealed that he had been shot 10 times. His vehicle was also reported missing from the location of the shooting.
The investigation into the murder of Richard 'Chris' Yeager led the New Orleans Police Department to two teenage suspects. One of the individuals, a 16-year-old, was already being monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet at the time of the incident. This electronic monitoring placed him at the scene of the crime. Both teenagers were subsequently arrested in connection with Yeager's death.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of resolution, though not without complexity. One of the teens, Rendell Brown, pleaded guilty for his role in Yeager's death and received a 40-year prison sentence. The other accused, Shane Hughes, faced charges of second-degree murder and armed robbery. After deliberations, a jury found Hughes not guilty of the murder of Chris Yeager. While he was also acquitted on a separate armed robbery charge, the jury could not reach a verdict on the armed robbery charge related to Yeager's death.
