In the early evening of February 8, 2023, chaos erupted at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Bullard Avenue in New Orleans East. A vehicle carrying seven individuals, including children, became the target of a mass shooting. When the gunfire ceased, two of the occupants had sustained fatal injuries. One of the victims was later identified as 18-year-old Kristen Hudgins. Another woman in the car also died from her injuries.
