In the spring of 2024, a wave of violence struck a New Orleans community, claiming the life of 17-year-old Rickey Hamilton. On the afternoon of April 27th, the young man was inside a vehicle at the intersection of Freret and Sixth Streets. He was not alone; a young boy was also in the car with him. In a sudden burst of gunfire, unknown assailants opened fire on their vehicle. Both Rickey and the child were struck by the bullets.

Rickey was transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he tragically succumbed to them. The young boy who was with him was also hospitalized but was thankfully reported to be in stable condition. The New Orleans Police Department began an investigation into the shooting, but the identities of the shooter or shooters remained unknown in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Rickey Hamilton, born on December 13, 2006, was a student at Edna Karr High School. He was an active member of his school community, participating in the Color Guard. Beyond his school activities, Rickey was a budding entrepreneur with a passion for sewing. He had started his own business, aptly named 'Bluski The Tailor,' showcasing his creative talents. The untimely death of this young man, who was on the cusp of adulthood and pursuing his dreams, sent ripples of grief through his family and the wider New Orleans community. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder, and the investigation remains ongoing.
