In the early morning hours of April 18, 2024, a tragic event unfolded in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Dalton Reeder. The incident, which also claimed the life of his 71-year-old father, Douglas Patterson, took place in the 4000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Responding to a call of a shooting at approximately 4:20 a.m., New Orleans Police Department officers arrived at the scene to find both Reeder and Patterson suffering
from gunshot wounds. The two men were pronounced deceased at the location, one of whom was discovered in a driveway.
Shortly after the discovery, a male individual identified as Ronell Reeder, 22, surrendered to authorities at the NOPD's Second District station in connection with the double homicide. Following questioning by detectives, Ronell Reeder was arrested and subsequently faced two counts of second-degree murder. He was later booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. The investigation determined him to be the perpetrator in the incident.
