Calvin Joseph “CJ” Brown Jr., a 41-year-old Black man, was killed on October 18, 2023, after an ordinary workday in New Orleans ended in sudden violence. Late that afternoon, police were called to the 3400 block of Franklin Avenue, where a shooting had erupted at a gas station. When officers arrived, they found Brown suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed by EMS to a hospital, but doctors could not save him.
