In the late hours of December 28, 2014, a violent altercation in a parking lot in west Shreveport, Louisiana, claimed the life of 27-year-old Khadeir Jamal Zeidan, a White male. The fatal encounter unfolded shortly before 11:00 p.m. in the 4900 block of Mansfield Road. Responding to reports of shots fired, Shreveport Police patrol officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a liquor store.
Zeidan had sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, 32-year-old Saher Zeidan, who was also an employee of the liquor store alongside Khadeir, suffered a gunshot wound to his hand. He was transported to University Health for treatment and was reported to be recovering. Investigators quickly pieced together the events leading to the shooting, determining that Khadeir Zeidan had been involved in a dispute with another man. The altercation escalated, and both Zeidan and the other man allegedly drew firearms.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, multiple shots were fired, fatally wounding Khadeir Zeidan and injuring Saher Zeidan. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later found to have been damaged by gunfire. Crime scene investigators recovered shell casings from different weapons at the location, indicating that more than one firearm was discharged during the incident.
Through their investigation, detectives identified 36-year-old Jertorrez Harris as the other individual involved in the altercation. Authorities made contact with Harris, and he surrendered to them without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Initially, Harris was charged with one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Police seized two firearms believed to be connected to the shooting and indicated that other weapons may have also been involved. The investigation into the death of Khadeir Jamal Zeidan continued following the initial arrest.
