In an act of selfless heroism, 28-year-old Lindsey Kathleen Crain lost her life on January 29, 2015, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a female. Born on July 31, 1986, Crain was killed while intervening in a violent altercation to protect her mother. The tragic incident unfolded when her mother was attempting to leave her husband, Abbie Head, after what was described as years of abuse and threats of violence.
An argument erupted between Head and his wife at their home in the 1500 block
of General Collins Avenue in the Algiers neighborhood. Crain arrived at the residence and tried to help her mother leave the volatile situation. As Crain was ushering her mother out of the house, Head followed them, armed with a shotgun. He stepped between the two women in the driveway and fired at his stepdaughter twice. Lindsey Crain was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the fatal shooting, Abbie Head fled the scene. He was later apprehended at a motel in Broussard, Louisiana. Head, who was 65 at the time of the sentencing, was initially charged with murder. However, he later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter, as well as obstruction of justice and aggravated assault with a firearm. In January 2018, a Criminal District Judge sentenced Head to 40 years in prison for the killing of his stepdaughter. At the time of her death, Lindsey Crain was survived by her young daughter.
