In the an afternoon in New Orleans on December 3, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm in the St. Roch neighborhood, tragically cutting short the life of a young woman. Mikia Alexis Sudda Kirton, a 24-year-old African American mother, was fatally wounded in the shooting that occurred in the 2300 block of North Galvez Street. Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, but her injuries proved too severe, and she was pronounced dead.
Mikia, a graduate of Christian Academy
and a student at Impreisen Health Care, was remembered by her family and friends as a loving and caring individual. The daughter of Naikia Boutte and Michael Kirton, she was a devoted mother to her two children. Her sudden and violent death left her family and the community grappling with a profound sense of loss.
In the days following the shooting, the New Orleans coroner's office officially identified Mikia Kirton as the victim.
