In the an afternoon in New Orleans on December 3, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm in the St. Roch neighborhood, tragically cutting short the life of a young woman. Mikia Alexis Sudda Kirton, a 24-year-old African American mother, was fatally wounded in the shooting that occurred in the 2300 block of North Galvez Street. Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, but her injuries proved too severe, and she was pronounced dead.
