On June 1, 2015, Jacquez Deondra Young, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot in Gretna, Louisiana. A native of Gretna and a resident of Avondale, Young was a 2009 graduate of West Jefferson High School and had attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. He was the father of two children.
The investigation into his death led to the identification of Michael Brown as a participant in the murder.
Brown, who was 24 years old at the time of his sentencing, pleaded guilty on February 22, 2017, to his involvement in Young's death. The case was part of a larger effort by law enforcement to address violent crime in the area.
On November 8, 2018, Michael Brown was sentenced for the murder of Jacquez Young. He received a sentence of 340 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
