Jemond Malik Cador, a 21-year-old male, was a graduate of West Jefferson High School's 'Class of 2018' and had served for three years in the United States Army National Guard. His life was tragically cut short on December 6, 2021, when he was shot and killed in his Terrytown apartment. The incident occurred during a botched armed robbery attempt. An acquaintance from his National Guard unit, Myron Lee, had visited Cador's apartment on Wright Avenue a week prior to the fatal encounter.
Lee, 22, orchestrated the robbery, recruiting four other individuals to assist him. He provided firearms and transportation for his cohorts to travel from the Baton Rouge area to the West Bank for the crime. Upon arriving at Cador's apartment, Lee kicked in the door. Jemond Cador immediately fought back against the intruders. In the ensuing struggle, one of Lee's accomplices, Gerald Little, shot Cador seven times, leading to his death at the scene. Little was the only one to discharge a weapon during the incident.
Following the murder, all five men fled the scene. Their escape was short-lived as they were pulled over by a Louisiana State Police trooper on Interstate 10 for speeding. The trooper, unaware of their involvement in the homicide, discovered firearms in their vehicle. This traffic stop ultimately led to their connection to the murder of Jemond Cador.
The investigation resulted in the arrest and conviction of all five individuals involved. Myron Lee was found guilty of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 89 ½ years. The man who fired the fatal shots, Gerald Little, 21, was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, receiving a life sentence. The other three accomplices pleaded guilty to lesser charges. Isaiah White, 22, and Matthew Kerry Smith, 22, both pleaded guilty to manslaughter and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, with White receiving a 20-year sentence and Smith a 30-year sentence. Kewane K. Edwards, 24, also pleaded guilty to manslaughter and conspiracy to commit armed robbery and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
