In the spring of 2020, a young Black man named Tavon Corley, 25, was killed in a shooting in Gretna, Louisiana. His life was cut short on the evening of Friday, March 13, 2020, when he was fatally wounded by gunfire. At the time of his death, Corley was one of three individuals who had been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of a cab driver, Blake Helmer, which had occurred just a few days prior.
