Jordy Francis Bellard, a 30-year-old man, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015, in Eunice, Louisiana. His death was the result of a shooting that stemmed from an argument at a residence on Shelton Manuel Road.
An altercation between Bellard and Kenneth Scott Prather, 34, of Branch, escalated into violence. According to an arrest affidavit, Prather shot Bellard twice in the back.
After Bellard had fallen, Prather shot him once more in the head, later telling police he wanted to 'eliminate the threat'. A 31-year-old woman from Church Point was also wounded during the incident.
In October 2015, Kenneth Scott Prather was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of second-degree murder for the death of Jordy Bellard. At the time of the shooting, Prather was already facing several drug-related charges. If convicted of the murder charge, he would face a mandatory life sentence.
