In the late hours of a Saturday in New Iberia, Louisiana, the life of 47-year-old Nitkitkia 'Nikki' Durham was tragically cut short. On August 17, 2024, the mother of six was killed in a violent act that authorities would later describe as a domestic homicide. A native of New Iberia, Durham was known affectionately as Nikki to her friends and family.
She was an employee at Amazon, where she had formed many friendships.
That evening, New Iberia police responded to a call about a shooting on Walton Street. Upon their arrival, they encountered a man in the street who was surrendering to them. This man was identified as 47-year-old Terry Lynn James Senior, the ex-husband of Nitkitkia Durham. After entering the residence, officers discovered Durham's body.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that James had recently filed for divorce from Durham. In the wake of the tragedy, Durham's sister expressed her profound confusion and grief, questioning the motive behind the alleged act, especially since he was the one who had initiated the divorce. Terry Lynn James Senior was subsequently arrested in connection with the death of his ex-wife.
