In the late afternoon of October 28, 2015, a dispute on Morgan Street in Houma, Louisiana, escalated into a burst of gunfire that left 18-year-old Corey Butler dead. When police arrived at the scene around 4:15 p.m., they discovered Butler on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was pronounced dead. The male victim was a native and resident of Houma.
