In the early hours of a Saturday morning, the life of 19-year-old Clamisha Dazann Houston was tragically cut short. On June 11, 2016, the young mother of two found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time in a Lowe's Home Improvement store parking lot on Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey, Louisiana. A dispute that began on a public bus escalated dramatically after spilling out into the parking lot.
The altercation between two groups of men took a fatal turn around 1 a.m.
when one man reportedly retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and opened fire into the crowd. In the ensuing chaos, others returned fire. Caught in the deadly crossfire, Clamisha, who had just stepped off the bus, was struck by the gunfire. The young woman, a native of Harvey and resident of Marrero, was killed at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities began their investigation into the senseless act of violence that claimed Clamisha Houston's life. During their inquiries, investigators identified Furnell 'Nonnie' Celestine as one of the individuals involved in the shootout that led to the teenager's death.
Clamisha was the loving mother of a son and a daughter, Braxton and Bailey Houston. Her death left her family, including her parents Latricia Houston and Clinton Hensley, and her siblings, devastated. The community mourned the loss of a young life full of potential, a casualty of a conflict she had no part in.
