On a tragic summer day in Harvey, Louisiana, the life of 31-year-old Dominique Farria was cut short. On July 24, 2018, the mother of four became the victim of a fatal shooting that stemmed from a domestic argument with her husband, Ray Farria. The couple, who were high school sweethearts and had been married for twelve years, were visiting family in the Stonebridge subdivision when the dispute escalated.
In an attempt to leave the situation, Dominique got into her vehicle with her four
young children, who ranged in age from one to eleven. Her husband, however, tried to prevent her from driving away by first standing behind the car and then climbing onto the hood as she began to move. While on the hood of the car, Ray Farria fired a single shot through the windshield, striking his wife in the neck. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Dominique succumbed to her injuries. The children were not physically harmed in the incident.
Immediately following the shooting, Ray Farria fled the scene and discarded the firearm in a nearby wooded area. He was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after. Initially charged with second-degree murder, Ray Farria later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for disposing of the weapon, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In November 2019, a Jefferson Parish judge sentenced Ray Farria to 80 years in prison for his crimes. During the legal proceedings, it was revealed that Farria had a prior conviction for burglary. In victim-impact statements, Dominique's family expressed their support for the plea agreement, bringing a close to the legal chapter of a devastating event that left four children without their mother.
