A young woman, Keyoka Deshawn Collins, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014. The 22-year-old was a native of New Orleans and lived in Waggaman, Louisiana. She died at West Jefferson Medical Center.
Keyoka was a graduate of O. Perry Walker High School, where her passion for basketball shone through her participation in AAU basketball. She was a cherished daughter, leaving behind her parents as well as a loving extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her passing was also mourned by a wide circle of friends, including a devoted friend named Erniesha 'Niesha' Taylor. Her family had previously experienced the loss of her brother.
Family and friends gathered to honor Keyoka's life at a funeral service held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Davis Mortuary Service in Marrero. She was laid to rest at Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum in Westwego.
