In the spring of 2017, the life of 26-year-old Ashton Butler, a Black male from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically cut short. A father of three young children, Butler was reported missing at the end of March, sparking concern among his family and friends who immediately began to search for him. The search came to a grim conclusion on a Wednesday afternoon in early April when his body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in a garage on Ethel Street in the southwestern part of the city.
