On the evening of February 26, 2014, Courtney M. Meeks, a 24-year-old Black male, was working his shift as a security guard at a CVS pharmacy on Schaefer Highway in Detroit, Michigan. His life was cut tragically short when he heroically intervened in a violent crime unfolding in the store's parking lot.
