In the late hours of a November evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 32-year-old Eric Jerard Jones. The male victim was a fry cook at Sammy's Grill and a father. On November 19, 2016, in the 1600 block of Jade Avenue, an argument between Jones and another man, Clarence Eugene Parker, intensified into a physical altercation.
The confrontation took a fatal turn when Parker allegedly produced a firearm.
He is reported to have shot Jones twice during the struggle. As Jones lay wounded on the ground, Parker is said to have fired another shot. Following the incident, Parker reportedly went back to his apartment and informed a witness that he had just shot someone and needed to leave. The two then left the location in a ride-share vehicle.
When deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m., they discovered Jones unresponsive between two buildings, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the weeks that followed, investigators worked to identify a suspect. Their efforts led them to 22-year-old Clarence Eugene Parker, who was subsequently arrested on January 5, 2017. Parker was charged with the second-degree murder of Eric Jones and was booked into the parish prison.
